5 POST-its!!!
My initial thoughts are YES-if you need to tidy then you need to read this book! If you are like the millions of people who have less than a “clutter free” home—have to be A Lot of us based on the number of books I have purchased on this subject and the reviews of some of the top ranking books still on the subject—which is OK, no need to judge ourselves, heck, I hope you will enjoy this method like I did.
Did I say enjoy in a thought about decluttering?
Yes, I did….but wait here’s why.
My original skepticism turned to curiosity and I thought what do I have to lose other than a bunch of excess “stuff” in my life so I got the book—lots of years after its debut but hey I didn’t want to rush in, I wanted to make sure it would be helpful….
I read it in a week and quickly decided to put the 1st step into action before I lost my enthusiasm. I liked the idea of decluttering by categories instead of by rooms and this concept of starting with my clothes made sense while taking the pressure off of having to potentially throw away my kids gifts they lovingly made while in school. I wasn’t ready for that category yet. I thought if all else fails I can go buy new clothes and fill my closet again but I cannot got back in time and have my kids make the cool hand molds etc.
The psychology underlying the collecting of stuff and ultimate clutter coming from not having a space to call our own and or not having enough practice with decision making makes perfect sense and fits me to the T. One of three sisters in a large room I spent the better part of my life trying to create a space I could call my own and then in college life dealing with roommates got to be a pain as well. One would think that getting married and having a home that the problem would get remedied but NO!! More space, yes but every space needed to be shared except for the Den my husband had-Harrumph! Just add kids and even more stuff and more sharing so you get the idea. Wherever you are in the psychology of your stuff take a little time to read through Marie Kondo book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up and dive in or do it like I am over 3 months. If I can do it You can do it. Check it out below
